We regularly hold Meet & Greet events throughout each month. This is a chance for you to come out and meet our adoptable dogs and fill out an application to adopt or foster. The times and locations are always available on the left side at the top of this page, so be sure to check there frequently to see where we’ll be!
Please note that not all of our dogs attend each Meet & Greet. If you are planning on coming out to see a particular dog, it is best to check our Facebook page the morning of the event to view the list of dogs scheduled to be attending.
As a growing rescue group, we are in constant need of volunteers who can assist us in saving dogs. If you are able to provide a foster home for dogs until they are adopted, please e-mail us for more information. Fostering is such a rewarding experience and is vital to our goal of placing rescued dogs into new permanent homes.
Think that buying a puppy from a pet store isn’t such a big deal? THINK AGAIN.
That cute little puppy you want to buy is from a puppy mill and yes, pet stores WILL and DO lie to you and will tell you whatever you want to hear to make the sale. It happens ALL of the time! In buying a puppy, you’re helping to keep puppy mills in business. Don’t believe me? Educate yourself.
We are a group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters, as well as owner-surrender dogs who need to be re-homed due to unfortunate circumstances. We are not a shelter, and we have no central location for the dogs we rescue. We pull dogs from various shelters and provide foster homes until they are adopted. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy mill and pet store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for, and ultimately, the supply of, such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.
A home visit and reference/vet check will be done to determine the best placement of our dogs. You must complete an application, which will help us determine if the dog you are interested in is a good match for you. Home At Last reserves the right to reject any application and reserves the sole right in determining the best placement for our dogs. The application is not a guarantee of any dog’s placement. You can complete our online adoption application with the name of the dog you are applying for.
An adoption fee is necessary to cover the cost of spaying/neutering, medicating, and caring for dogs that often come from situations of neglect and sickness. We also pay the shelters a fee for every dog we rescue and sometimes have to pay a driver to transport them from shelters to our foster homes in PA and out of harm’s way. Without charging our own fee, we could not afford to do our work. Most PA county shelters get tax-payer funding and large corporate donations to support them so they can afford to let their animals go for a lower fee than we can. We thank you for your understanding.
The adoption fee for puppies between 8 weeks to 6 months is $450 and for any dog more than 6 months old is $400. Some of our dogs are designated as benefactor dogs. These dogs have a higher adoption fee of $650 and the additional fee collected helps fund expensive surgeries for medical dogs that we have. This is notated in the bio of the dog. We only adopt out dogs that have been spayed or neutered to ensure that no dog adopted from Home At Last will be used for breeding.
Unfortunately we cannot hold dogs for a future adoption date. Holding an animal in a foster home would mean we'd have less space available for animals that are in life or death situations and need our help. If you are interested in a specific animal that is ready for adoption, you must be prepared to adopt right away.
